Local and international developers turn to Rwanda’s affordable housing projects
Rwanda housing sector is filled with activity aimed at providing affordable homes to its citizens and offering opportunities for local and international developers. An increasing number of developers are embracing the affordable housing prospects set at play by the government of Rwanda.
Eight families that lived in high-risk zone have been given above in a newly built housing block located in Nyakabingo Village of Kimisagara sector in Nyarugenge District.
This is part of the move to get residents out of harm’s way without necessarily having to move them from their land.
The project dubbed 8in1 Affordable Housing Demonstration Block was designed and implemented by Skat Consulting Ltd in partnership with Rwanda Housing Authority.

Tanzania to Build 200,000 Affordable Houses Each Year

Tanzania, East Africa’s most populated country plans to build 200,000 affordable homes each year in bid to curb housing shortage in the country.
The country is currently having a number of major building projects with a total capital expenditure of US $40bn. The Tanzanian government has also introduced Mortgage for the public and each commercial Bank has been issuing mortgages for the past few years which aim is to deliver the 200,000 affordable homes each year.
The public has been cautioned of potential disasters that could come with the wet season ahead, especially lightning, landslides, floods, storms and hailstorm.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affair (MIDIMAR) says that, usually, chances of disasters increase during rainy seasons and calls on the public to be vigilant.
During this year’s first wet season, disasters claimed over 200 lives and hundreds injured while houses worth Rwf24 billion were destroyed, an amount higher that a whole district’s budget.
